Pivotal wine industry role

Based in Adelaide, the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation (GWRDC) is a federal statutory body established to invest in research, development and extension on behalf of the wine industry and the Australian government. GWRDC plays a significant role in the future success of this major Australian industry and an exciting opportunity has emerged for a new Chief Executive to lead the organisation during an exciting and challenging time for the industry.

Reporting directly to the Board, the key responsibilities of this critical industry position are :-

• providing strong leadership in setting priorities, developing programs and promoting the role of R&D within the industry and the broader community;
• managing the process of initiating and developing a new R&D strategic plan for the industry;
• directing and managing the implementation of the strategic R&D plan;
• fostering strong relationships with industry, research institutions and government;
• ensuring the results of R&D programs are effectively disseminated for uptake by the industry;
• leading, motivating, developing, mentoring and managing the dedicated and close knit GWRDC Team.

The successful candidate will be appropriately qualified and have senior management experience within an organisation servicing diverse stakeholders. Exposure to the wine and grape industry and research is desirable but not essential. Most important are the strategic thinking, negotiation, communication, organisation, influencing commercial analysis and management skills necessary to lead and direct the GWRDC.
